CORONAVIRUS | Malaysians travelling to Sabah or Sarawak from the Peninsular are required to undergo Covid-19 swab tests upon arrival into the respective states.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said they will no longer be housed at state government-appointed centres for a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

“Those who are tested positive will be sent to the hospital while those found to be negative will be sent home, where they must self-quarantine.

“For those travelling to Sarawak, they will be tested once more on the 10th day of the compulsory quarantine.

“Action can be taken against those found not adhering to self-quarantine measures,” the senior minister said during his daily press conference in Putrajaya.

He, however, reminded that all interstate travel, by air or land, were not permitted during the conditional movement control order (MCO) period.

He said those intending to cross states, including between the Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak, must first obtain police approval.

Yesterday, he announced that higher education students returning to Sabah no longer need to undergo mandatory quarantine upon arrival due to the state’s inability to house them at quarantine centres.

Instead, the students will have to undergo swab tests.
